The night before Christmas, I was prepared. I made sure the camcorder had tape and fresh batteries. Same with the camera. I was ready to capture those first moments of excitement. But, as 6:30 am rolled around, I heard noises downstairs. Jordan and Kylie were already shaking gifts under the tree. I have never missed this moment - ever. Even the ants got up before me - carrying of Santa's crumbs. As Kylie checked Ryan's stocking for coal, I knew I had one more chance to capture Christmas cinematic magic. And I did. When Ryan woke up, he stared in disbelief at the gifts. Aaron and I were like
paparazzi - one on the camcorder, one on the camera - capturing every moment. Ryan would say "this is always what I wanted", Kylie hugged her new Nintendo
DS, and Jordan exclaimed "This is the Best Day Ever" as he opened up his
gamecube. At that moment, Aaron and I exchanged knowing glances. We have been witness to "the Best Day Ever" turning into "This is the worst day of my life!" But it wasn't. The kids (Aaron included), happily played with their new toys, and despite a shaky start, it really was the best day
ever.
