Two years ago, Jordan ran excitedly off the bus with a "100" paper hat on. He bounded across the street with such pride and happiness, so eager to show me his project. It was a moment defined by the simple joys of life. What also struck me about that moment was that he had not a shred of self-
consciousness. He was oblivious to what others thought - after all, everyone in his life had always been
encouraging and positive. I couldn't help think of the snickering third graders, or whispering fourth graders that I couldn't shelter him from forever..........Well, I'm happy to report that Kylie came bounding off the bus today with her own "100" hat. She was equally proud of her creation - no self
consciousness, only self confidence, and a big 2
nd grade brother if anyone says otherwise.
