Now that you are 6

I have a story to tell

I can recite it all by heart

I know it very well

It's a story about a little girl

Full of life and so feisty

It's oh so humbling when in you

I catch a glimpse of me

Or sometimes I see my Grandma

and all the strength that she had

Sometimes I see your confidence

mirrored in your Dad

You're the peacemaker of the family

the middle child of three

And unlike your two brothers

Relatively drama free

And just when I think

you have outgrown your need for Mom

You tell me that forever

you will live with me at home

And sometimes late at night

with your animals by your side

Your feelings and your thoughts

In me you do confide

The best part of my day

Surely is this time

It's really such an honor

So pure and genuine

Would you believe this story

If I told it to you next year?

Some things never change

You want to hold so dear

But enough of being sappy

It's time to party and be smiley
